As always this is most excellent. I wanted to add that ”matelotage” as a word is derived from the French word ”matelot” which means sailor. That could explain why some scholars go out on a limb and talk about matelotage with strong relationships between people sailing? Like maybe? It doesn’t make them right but 🤷♂️
